E4 Research

E4 is a channel affiliated with Channel 4, programming shows suitable for teens and young adults ages 16-34. The free-to-air channel usually programs shows that are relatable comedy-dramas for teens such as Brooklyn nine-nine and Skins, Soaps like Hollyoaks and reality TV series like RuPaul’s Drag Race or made in Chelsea.

First launched in 2001, the channel became successful and a digital radio station followed.

The channel airs shows 24 hours a day, showing mainly repeats throughout the early morning to the late afternoon and new episodes in the evening until midnight. This is because the majority of E4s audience will be students who will most likely be at school or college in the daytime.

E4s biggest success came with the launch of reality TV show, Big Brother. Wherein a group of people (or celebrities) live within the same 4 walls as each other for a month and a half. Willpower is tested, and emotions run high in the raw and uncut show. Usually featuring tears, drama and fights. The show was so loved by the audiences for the action. Big Brother ran for 19 seasons, roping in over 2 million views in 2018, one of its biggest launch episodes yet.
Another popular show from E4 is The Inbetweeners, a coming-of-age sitcom originally aired on e4 between 2008 and 2010. Following a group of unfortunate British teens, the show was a big hit due to its rough edges and relatability. Winning multiple awards, the show averaged 459,000 viewers and lead to 2 films and a spin off 10 year anniversary special in 2019.
In more recent years, E4s most successful show is the American television sitcom, The Big Bang Theory. With over 250 episodes spread over 12 seasons, E4 manage to show repeats of multiple episodes each day.
