The Apprentice


Reality TV show The Apprentice, featuring Lord Alan Sugar, is a 15-week series on BBC1 wherein a group of young and aspiring entrepreneurs’ complete tasks each week to earn the approval of lord sugar and his associates.   The poster used to advertise the show try’s to be smart, simple and effective. The font they have used is in all caps and shows a seriousness about the show. Recognisable figure Lord Sugar presents a very intimidating presence and due to the lower camera angle, it suggests his dominance and power. The smart attire also follows this, like what you would see in a work place or a formal situation informs us that the show is about business. Due to this we can learn the target audience is adults as children would clearly not understand anything about business plans or apprentices. Bold colours used in the promotion poster indicates a dominance and power unlike pastel colours which would give a hazy dream like look. This use of saturated colour further reinforces the ideas of seriousness.

 

Love Island
Love Island is a show in where a group of half girls, half boys live amongst each other in a villa. The show, usually featuring very attractive and glammed up cast members, has caused a lot of controversies in the media, but continues to return to our screens each 6 months and it’s always a big success. The poster is set on a beach with the group of young adults running towards the ocean, as we can’t see their face it builds suspense as the entire show is based around their looks and ability to attract the people of the opposite gender. The logo is featured on the logo, quite simple suggesting the light-heartedness of the show, next to a golden heart. This along with the name suggests romance and gives the viewers a clue as to what they will be watching. The overall calm colour tones are summary and light and match the aesthetic of the show, implying that it’s fun and easy to watch. The cast, although you can’t see their faces, are young, suggesting the target audience would be people aged around 16-25 and most likely girls, following the themes of love and romance.




RuPaul’s Drag Race US

RuPaul’s Drag Race is an American reality TV series wherein 13 drag queens compete against each other for the crown and drag race icon, RuPaul’s approval. The poster contains lots of bright colours, fitting for a show based around drag queens. It features the seasons queens circling RuPaul, suggesting that the show is ultimately hers and she has a voice over them, further suggesting that it’s a competition-based show. The font is white to stand out from the explosions of colour behind it, indicating ideas from their motto to “release your inner drag artist”
The poster also contains Lady Gaga, a global icon. This celebrity appearance helps to build the show up, fans are excited to see one of their favourite singers on the show, as Lady Gaga's audience is usually teenagers, we can assume that the people watching will probably be 16 and upwards. This is supported by the bright and colourful poster suggesting a fun and youthfulness. Also, in this poster, the use of the rainbow also suggests at the LGBT pride flag. LGBT pride is supported and encouraged throughout the show.
