Statement
of intent.
When advertising a type of broadcast service, companies must
follow the Broadcast code from the ASA (Advertising standards authority). This
code of conduct ensures all advertising is safe to be displayed publicly
without becoming a trigger to cause harm and offence or something misleading.
It protects children against any rules regarding “unsafe practice”. These rules
also protect against religions, faiths and ethical beliefs.
The advertisements I have created comply fully with these instructions.
They do not contain any misleading content nor anything inappropriate, as
although my programme is targeted at teens and young adults, anyone could watch
it if they wanted so desperately to. The plot behind the show is tame, suitable
to entertain a variety of audiences and doesn’t even take account to the ideas
of religions and faiths and the exclusion of them.
Due to the raw emotion of reality TV, viewers feel like they
can connect with the unscripted cast more than they could in a drama or a soap.
Teens especially favour this style of programme as they see it as relatable.
E4’s idea being that the channel is for ‘when social media sucks and it’s
raining outside’ obviously suggests that teens are the target audience, hence
why they are so keen to program reality TV shows.
In terms of the representation behind my reality TV show, due
to the fact it is aimed at teens and young adults the show would be chic and
youthful. Ensuring to keep with trends and what’s ‘in’ prevents the show from
seeming cheesy or trying to hard. Its important to ensure the show develops
along with its audience to keep it current.
To use my posters to attract the correct target audience I
have thought about the themes, colours and photos I will use. Throughout the 4
posters I have decided to use pops of bright and fun colours, with my target
audience being teens and young adults the bold colours are more attractive to
them than an older audience. The fonts I use must be striking too. For my
photos I plan to only use models of the target age range (around 16-21) as to
ensure my target audience is clear to anyone who might see the advertisement.
