Reality TV is part of most peoples everyday lives, from Big Brother to Botched, the shows are full of drama and people cant resist to tune in each week to watch. 4 in ten people watch reality TV each day and the average person spends around a third of their free time watching TV and just under 70% of them are reality tv shows. Majority of the audience are the 25-34 year olds (around 50%) where as the 55+ make up a fourth. They are such an influence on everyone's lives as we constantly compare ourselves, especially to people on shows like Love Island, this is especially hard on teens who are usually the target audience. This has lead to a lot of eating disorders and upset in teenagers, majority being female. (48% female as opposed to 30% of men) But despite that, we continue to watch reality TV. One report found that amongst teenagers (age 12-17) 3 out of 4 of their most watched TV shows were reality TV.
The most watched reality shows in the Uk in 2017 were Strictly come dancing and I'm a celebrity get me out of here, both with around 35% of the public tuning in to watch. The Apprentice, Xfactor, Britain's got talent, Big Brother and Come dine with me also had a high rating.
In a report in 2016, 3 of the top 10 greatest reality TV moments were from I'm A celebrity get me out of here and another 3 from big brother.
